Prospective singers will meet with the director or a designee before rehearsal and will be asked to match pitches and sing for vocal placement. This "audition" will not need to be repeated as long as active membership is maintained. Members are NOT required to read music. Learning CD's will be provided, and the sectional rehearsal session can be recorded.
We meet Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 9:30 at the Ellicott City Community Center (behind the Miller Library in Howard County), from September to June. Teaching techniques include learning CD's (voice or piano), sectionals before or during rehearsals, and 1-on-1 help when needed. We do not rehearse on holidays. In July and August, we generally meet every other week to rehearse and socialize. There is no rehearsal on days when Howard County Schools close due to weather or other emergencies.
Attending Thursday rehearsals is the best way to learn new music and give support through your voice to the rest of the group. There is no formal attendance requirement. As long as you know your music, you may perform with the chorus. The director may offer private help if needed. Volunteers are welcome and necessary to help with administrative and musical needs of the chorus.
We encourage soloists and small groups within the chorus to add their "special" acts to our repertoire. ShowTime Singers performs once or twice a month in various communities, so there are many chances to sing for appreciative audiences.
There is a one-time registration fee of $20, and monthly dues of $15 should be paid to the treasurer at the first rehearsal of each month. There is no charge to active members for music or CD's.
Most members have been able to use items from their personal wardrobes for performances.
ShowTime Singers is a 501c3 non-profit organization and is a member of the Howard County Arts Council.
